APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University track and field star Josh Janusiak has earned a berth in the NCAA Division III Championships.
Janusiak (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee), a junior, will compete in the 10,000 meters on Thursday (May 24) at Veterans Memorial Stadium at UW-La Crosse.
Janusiak earned his spot in the national championships with a school-record time of 30:17.00 at the Hillsdale College Gina Relays in April. Janusiak owns the 13th-fastest time in the field of 20 runners, and the top time of 29:19.53 belongs to Grant of O'Connor of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
The top eight finishers in the event are All-Americans.
Janusiak is Lawrence's first qualifier for the NCAA Championships since Madeline Steininger finished ninth in the high jump in 2009. Janusiak is the first men's qualifier since Kolade Agbaje-Williams was an All-American in the long jump in 2003.
Janusiak nearly qualified in the 5,000 meters as well. Janusiak ran a school-record time of 14:34.55 in the Brian Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University in April but just missed out on the NCAA meet as the final qualifying spot went to Dan O'Keefe of North Central (Ill.) College at 14:34.42.
