Janusiak posts one of nation's top times in 5,000

Lawrence's Josh Janusiak finished fourth in the 5,000 meters at the Midwest Elite Invitational.

WHITEWATER, Wis. -- Lawrence University track standout Josh Janusiak posted one of the nation's top times in the 5,000 meters on Saturday at the Midwest Elite Invitational at UW-Whitewater.

Janusiak finished fourth in the event in a time of 14:41.49, which currently ranks as the 12th-fastest time in all of NCAA Division III. Joshua Schroeder of UW-La Crosse won the event in 14:34.03. 

Janusiak also broke his own school record in the event. Janusiak set the mark of 14:41.68 in 2018 and edged that record by .19 seconds.

Several other Lawrence athletes competed at the Dick Hendricks Invitational in Ripon on Saturday.

Lawrence finished 1-2-3 in the 5,000 at Ripon as Billy Daniels took the title with a time of 16:25.43. Sam Marrese-Wheeler was second in 16:51.51, and Ben Schaefer grabbed third in 17:06.74.

On the women's side, Leah Hawksford took fourth in the 5,000 in 20:01.43.
