APPLETON, Wis. -- Josh Janusiak came in first again.
The Lawrence University track and cross country star is used to being first in just about everything he does, and Janusiak picked up another first Tuesday when he was chosen as a first-team Google Cloud Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Janusiak (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee), a senior, earned Academic All-America honors for the second consecutive year after being a third-team selection in 2018. He was one of 11 men to repeat on the Academic All-America team and is first Lawrence student-athlete to be chosen for the first team on the cross country/track and field squad.
Janusiak also joins elite company with the first-team honor by becoming the ninth Lawrence student-athlete to be chosen for a first team. He is the first to receive that honor since men's tennis player Ryan Dunn was a first-team At-Large Team pick in 2010.
Janusiak graduated in June with degrees in Spanish and philosophy while compiling a 3.95 grade point average.
In addition to his impressive work in the classroom, Janusiak put together a stellar career in both track and cross country. An All-American in both cross country and track, Janusiak was a five-time qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championships (twice in cross country and three times in track and field). Janusiak was an All-American in the 10,000 meters outdoors in 2018 and followed that up by earning All-America honors in cross country in the fall. Janusiak also qualified for both the indoor and outdoor track championship in 2019 and was a national qualifier in cross country in 2017.
A nine-time Midwest Conference champion, Janusiak has became the first Lawrence cross country runner (and the sixth in Midwest Conference history) to win the MWC Championships title three consecutive times (2016-18). In track and field, he won the conference title in 5,000 meters indoors for three straight years and took the league title outdoors in the 10,000 for the past three seasons.
Janusiak holds the Lawrence records in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters indoors and the 5,000 and 10,000 outdoors. He also holds the Midwest Conference record in the 5,000 indoors and ran the fastest 8,000-meter time in Midwest Conference cross country history.
