APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University cross country standouts Hannah Kinzer and Joe Kortenhof swept the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week awards.
Kinzer (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower), a senior, won the award for the second time this season. Kortenhof (Portland, Ore./Lincoln), a sophomore, was honored for the first time in his career.
Kinzer turned in another fine performance as she took fourth place at the Gene Davis Invitational this past Saturday. Kinzer covered the 6,000 meters at Reid Golf Course in 23:55 to finish 13 seconds ahead of the nearest Midwest Conference competitor. Kinzer remains unbeaten against league runners this season. Kinzer led Lawrence to a fifth-place finish in the team standings.
Kortenhof turned in his best finish of his career by taking second at the Gene Davis Invitational. Kortenhof covered the 8,000-meter course in 26:22, which is the eighth-fastest time in the Midwest Conference this season. Kortenhof and teammate Josh Janusiak (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) swept the top two places to lead Lawrence to third in the team standings.
The runner-up finish topped Kortenhof's previous career best, which was fifth place at the Ken Weidt Classic at Concordia University Wisconsin in 2016.
Lawrence returns to action on Saturday when the Vikings travel to the KollegeTown Invitational at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis.
