Janusiak races to victory as Vikings claim team title at Lake Forest Invitational

Josh Janusiak won the individual title and led Lawrence to the team crown at the Lake Forest Invitational.

NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. -- Lawrence University cross country star Josh Janusiak roared to the victory Friday, and the Vikings claimed the team title at the Lake Forest Invitational.

Janusiak covered the 8,000-meter circuit at Foss Park Golf Course in 25:27.6 for his second consecutive victory to open the season. He won by 46 seconds over the second-place finisher, Jorge Villanueva of Lake Forest College.

Lawrence grabbed the team title with 31 points to edge Harper College, which was second with 40.

Joe Kortenhof grabbed third for the Vikings as he finished 26:59.0, and rookie Billy Daniels was fifth in 27:40. Cullen Allard was seventh in 27:50.9, and Jacob Sparreo completed the scoring by taking 15th in 28:31.5.

On the women's side, senior Molly Doruska led Lawrence's contingent by taking 10th place as she covered the 6,000 meters in 25:40.0. Alex Chand took 16th in 26:16.7, and Leah Hawksford was 17th in 26:26.1. Alyssa Kuss rounded out the group of Lawrence runners by taking 27th in 27:15.3.
