WINNECONNE, Wis. -- Lawrence University cross country standout Josh Janusiak raced to sixth place on Saturday against an elite field at the Kollege Town Invitational.
Janusiak completed the muddy 8,000-meter layout at Lake Breeze Golf Course in 25:17.4 to take sixth, and Dhruvil Patel of North Central (Ill.) was the individual champion in 25:03.3. This event drew a field of national title contenders as the NCAA Division III Championships will be run on the same course in November.
Janusiak was the top Midwest Conference finisher in the event as he finished more than 23 seconds ahead of Cornell's Mason Wicker, who finished 23rd.
Joe Kortenhof was next for the Vikings as he finished 122nd in 26:42.5, and Ben Schaefer took 278th with a time of 28:24.7. Completing the scoring for Lawrence were Cullen Allard, who was 290th in 28:42.3, and Sam Marrese-Wheeler, who was 320th in 29:26.5.
Lawrence finished 38th with 1,016 points, and North Central won the title with 41.
On the women's side, Leah Hawksford led Lawrence by placing 260th as she covered the 6,000 meters in 25:37.7. Molly Doruska was next for the Vikings as she placed 282nd in 26:04.1, and Alyssa Kuss was next in 296th in 26:25.4. Rounding out the scoring for Lawrence were Natalie Lamonto, who was 339th in 28:07.4, and Gillian Buckardt, who was 348th in 29:46.3.
Claire Lamb of Otterbein won the individual title with a time of 21:23.1. Washington (Mo.) took the team title with 70 points.
