APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University men's cross country standout Joe Kortenhof has been named the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week for the third time this season.
Kortenhof (Portland, Ore./Lincoln), a senior, won the award after racing to the title at the Gene Davis Invitational.
Kortenhof's victory in Lawrence's home meet at Reid Golf Course was the first win of his collegiate career. Running in cold, windy and muddy conditions, Kortenhof covered the 8,000-meter course in 25:51.0 to beat Lawrence alumnus and three-time Midwest Conference champion Josh Janusiak by 20 seconds, and he was 45 seconds ahead of the third-place finisher from St. Norbert College.
Kortenhof also won the conference's weekly award after his first two races of the season in September.
The Vikings return to action on Saturday when Lawrence travels to the Kollege Town Invitational at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wis.
