APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lake Forest College softball team jumped to an early lead in both games of Saturday's Midwest Conference doubleheader against Lawrence University and won both games.
Lake Forest defeated the Vikings 6-1 and 7-1 at Whiting Field.
In the opener, Lake Forest scored two runs in the first inning and added two more in the third to grab a 4-0 edge. That was enough support for Jenny McTague, who allowed five hits and a run over seven innings to get the win.
Riley Frisbie went 3-for-4 and hit a two-run homer in the first inning to pace Lake Forest (14-12, 5-3 MWC).
Rheya Upadhyaya went 2-for-3 for the Vikings (12-14, 3-7). Madeline MacLean failed to get an out in the first inning and took the loss. Lexi Angemi pitched the rest of the game and allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out three and walking four.
In the nightcap, Lake Forest did all of its damage in the first four innings. The Forester scored three times in the first, added another run in the second and three more in the fourth.
Frisbie, Jillian Rashid and Alyssa Grimm all collected two hits for the Foresters. Missy Dieckman-Meyer scattered six hits over seven innings to get the win. She struck out five and didn't walk a batter.
Emilia Jackson allowed nine hits over seven innings, struck out seven and walked two to take the loss.
Lawrence's Amanda Karnatz went 2-for-3 in the nightcap and swiped a pair of bases in the doubleheader to push her season total to 30.
