GALESBURG, Ill. -- The Lawrence University softball team rolled to a Midwest Conference doubleheader sweep of Knox College on Saturday and pushed head coach Kim Tatro to the brink of a milestone.
Lawrence defeated the Prairie Fire 13-2 in five innings and 9-4 and delivered career wins No. 398 and 399 for Tatro.
In the opener, Sam Belletini went 3-for-4 and smashed a three-run homer to pace the Vikings (14-16, 5-9 MWC). Madeline MacLean went 3-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs and earned the pitching victory. MacLean allowed seven hits, struck out five and walked one.
The Vikings struck for seven runs in the first, highlighted by Belletini's three-run homer. The Vikings put the game away with six runs in the fourth and Upadhyaya and MacLean both had two-run doubles in the inning.
In the nightcap, Lawrence pounded out 13 hits in support of Lexi Angemi, who earned her first career pitching victory. Angemi went 4.2 innings, allowed eight hits, struck out one and walked one.
MacLean, Looker and Urich all went 2-for-4, and MacLean, Looker and Angemi drove in two runs apiece.
The Vikings jumped on Knox (1-21, 0-14) with three runs in the first as Belletini and Looker both had run-scoring doubles.
Lawrence pushed the lead to 7-1 with three more runs in the fourth as Angemi and MacLean both picked up run-scoring singles.
