Chicago gets pair of great pitching performances to sweep Vikings

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The University of Chicago softball team got a pair of great pitching performances Friday to sweep a nonconference doubleheader from Lawrence University.

The Maroons won the opener 5-1 and took the nightcap 8-0 in five innings.

In the first game, Molly Moran allowed just two hits in seven innings to pick up the win. Moran struck out six and walked four. Anna Woolery went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs to pace Chicago (25-12), which scored four runs in the second to take control.

Lawrence's Madeline MacLean went the distance for the Vikings and allowed six hits, struck out one and walked one.

Megan Stoppelman fired a one-hit shutout in the nightcap for Chicago. She struck out four and didn't walk a batter. The only hit she allowed was Lexi Angemi's single in the fourth inning.

Woolery and Carly Schulz both went 3-for-3 for Chicago. 

Emilia Jackson allowed nine hits and walked three to take the loss for Lawrence (14-22).
