CLERMONT, Fla. -- Emilia Jackson tossed a five-hit shutout Friday, and the Lawrence University softball team pounded out 14 hits in a 9-0 nonconference win over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
Jackson struck out eight and walked one as the Vikings (2-0) won in five innings.
Amanda Karnatz led the Lawrence offense by going 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Rookie catcher Ceara Larson went 2-for-3 with two doubles and drove in a pair of runs, and Maria Reiter went 2-for-3 with a triple and drove in two runs.
The Vikings scored two runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings and picked up a single run in the second.
Lexi Angemi and Pedersen had run-scoring singles in the first and second, respectively, to help the Vikings to a 3-0 lead. Reiter then delivered a two-run triple in the third as Lawrence pulled out to a 5-0 edge.
Larson then smacked a two-run double in the fourth, and the Vikings added a pair of unearned runs in the fifth to close out the scoring.
Samantha Feinstein allowed 12 hits over 3.1 innings and took the loss for MCLA (1-5).
