Vikings roll to doubleheader sweep of Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Lawrence University pounded out 29 hits and scored 23 runs Thursday en route to a nonconference doubleheader sweep of Rockford University.

Lawrence won the opener 8-3, and the Vikings rolled to a 15-0 five-inning victory in the nightcap.

Ceara Larson went 3-for-4 with a double and drove in two runs for Lawrence (6-10), and Lexi Angemi went 3-for-5 with a double and scored a pair of runs. 

Maria Reiter, Madeline MacLean and Emilia Jackson all had two hits for the Vikings, and Sofie Pedersen had a bases-loaded double to drive in three runs as Lawrence piled up 16 hits.

MacLean went the distance and allowed five hits and no earned runs. She struck out four and walked two.

The Vikings led 1-0 and broke the game open with six runs in the second. The key blow in the inning was Pedersen's three-run double, and Angemi and Larson both added run-scoring doubles.

In the second game, Jackson tossed a three-hit shutout and struck out five while walking one. Jackson also went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in a pair of runs. 

Larson went 3-for-3 with a double and scored three runs to pace Lawrence's 13-hit attack. Lead-off hitter Amanda Karnatz was 2-for-4, including an inside-the-park homer, scored two runs and drove in two. Liz Jonjak had a triple and drove in three runs for Lawrence.

Lawrence scored five times in the first as Larson picked up a run-scoring double. The Vikings then blew the game wide open with seven runs in the second with the highlight coming on Karnatz's inside-the-park homer. Lawrence added three runs in the third to close out the scoring.
