LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Lake Forest College softball team put together the winning rally in the sixth inning of both games of Tuesday's Midwest Conference doubleheader to beat Lawrence University twice.
The Foresters won the opener 6-2 and took the second game 3-1.
The Vikings led 2-0 after scoring twice in the third, picking up one run on Larson's RBI single. Lake Forest cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the fourth. The Foresters then rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth with the help of three run-scoring singles.
Madeline MacLean allowed eight hits, struck out five and walked two in 5.1 innings and took the loss for Lawrence. Kyra Lenzi worked two scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win.
Sydney Gardner went 3-for-3, and Kat Beall was 2-for-4 to lead the Foresters in the opener.
In the nightcap, Reiter tied it at 1-1 for the Vikings in third with a run-scoring double. The score remained deadlocked until the Foresters scored twice in the sixth. A bunt single, coupled with a throwing error, and a ground out provided the two runs in the sixth.
Amanda Karnatz was 2-for-2, scored a run and swiped a base for the Vikings. The bottom three hitters in the Lake Forest order, Alyssa Grimm, Gardner and Hannah Kalnicky, all collected two hits and scored all three runs.
Maddie Webb allowed five hits in seven innings to get the win for Lake Forest (15-7, 4-0 MWC). Emilia Jackson allowed just one earned run, struck out two and did not walk a batter for the Vikings.
