Larson, Jackson sweep MWC weekly awards

APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University softball standouts Ceara Larson and Emilia Jackson have swept the Midwest Conference weekly honors.

Larson (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) was named Player of the Week, and Jackson (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) was chosen as Pitcher of the Week.

Larson won the award for the second time in her career after she hit .667 with a 1.667 slugging percentage and an astounding 2.355 OPS as Lawrence won three of four games. A sophomore catcher, Larson went 10-for-15 on the week with four home runs, three doubles, nine runs batted in and six runs scored.

In Lawrence's Midwest Conference doubleheader sweep at Beloit College, Larson went 8-for-9 with three home runs and three doubles. In Lawrence's 21-3 win in the nightcap, Larson was 5-for-5 with six RBI, two homers, including a grand slam, and two doubles. She went 3-for-4 with a double and a homer in Lawrence's 5-4 win over Beloit in the opener.

In the Vikings' doubleheader at Alverno College, Larson was 2-for-6 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored as the Vikings split with the Inferno.

Larson improved her season average to .472 with six doubles, six homers and 21 RBI.

A junior pitcher, Jackson won the conference award for the first time in her career. Jackson went 2-0 on the week with a 3.50 earned run average.

In a 6-3 win over Alverno, Jackson went the distance, allowed seven hits, struck out two and walked one. She also got the win in a complete-game effort in a 5-4 victory at Beloit. Jackson scattered 12 hits, struck out three and didn't walk a batter.

Jackson, who also made a pair of one-inning relief appearances, hit in all four of Lawrence's games and batted .375 with four RBI and four runs scored.

Jackson lowered her ERA on the season to 4.13 and improved her record to 4-5. She has an impressive strikeout-to-walk ratio with 35 Ks against just 13 walks.

Lawrence returns to action on Saturday when the Vikings travel to Cornell College.
