GALESBURG, Ill. -- The Lawrence University softball team rallied late in both games on Sunday to sweep a Midwest Conference doubleheader at Knox College.
Lawrence won the opener 6-4 and took the nightcap 7-3.
In the first game, Maria Reiter went 2-for-4, and Amanda Karnatz tripled and drove in two runs for the Vikings (7-13, 4-2 MWC). Emilia Jackson went the distance to earn the victory for Lawrence. Jackson allowed nine hits, struck out four and walked one.
Lawrence trailed 2-0 but picked up a run in the fourth when Madeline MacLean drew a bases-loaded walk to score Sofie Pedersen. The Vikings grabbed the lead with two runs in the fifth as Karnatz smacked a run-scoring triple and Ceara Larson followed with a sacrifice fly to put Lawrence up 3-2.
Knox (4-20, 0-6) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, but Jackson struck out Kylie Wolf to end the threat.
In the nightcap, Reiter went 2-for-4 with a double, drove in two runs and scored a run to pace the Vikings' nine-hit attack. Lexi Angemi and Jackson both had doubles as eight Vikings had at least one hit in the game.
Lawrence trailed 3-1 before breaking out for five runs in the sixth. Reiter started the scoring with a run-scoring groundout, and Angemi belted a two-run double to give Lawrence a 4-3 edge. Jackson followed with a run-scoring double, and Jonjak had an RBI single to give Lawrence a 6-3 lead.
The Vikings added a run in the seventh on Reiter's single for the final margin.
Madeline MacLean made the start and went 4.1 innings for the Vikings. Angemi worked 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the victory.
