FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- Brandi Bender hit a jump shot with two seconds left to lift Marian University to a 64-62 nonconference victory over Lawrence University on Wednesday at Sadoff Gymnasium.

Bender finished with a game-high 25 points after hitting 10-of-22 shots from the floor for the Sabres (1-0).

Rookie Kenya Earl had an impressive debut for Lawrence (0-1) with a double-double of 23 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Leah Reeves also had a double-double for Lawrence with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Another rookie, Erin Hill, added 10 points, five assists, four steals and two rebounds for the Vikings.

Lawrence grabbed a 62-59 on Earl's layup with 1:02 left, but Rachel Serchen hit a three-pointer with 51 seconds remaining to tie the game at 62-62.

After a Lawrence miss and a Marian turnover, the Vikings had another chance to take the lead. The Vikings had another miss and Earl was then whistled for an offensive foul with 11 seconds left. Bender then hit the game-winning jumper in the final seconds.

Lawrence led by as many as six points in the first half before Marian rallied to take a 48-47 lead at the break. The teams traded the lead in the second half in a game that featured six ties.
