ST. BONIFACIOUS, Minn. -- Madison Stricklin's putback with one second left Tuesday lifted Crown College to a 62-61 overtime victory over Lawrence University in a nonconference game at Wild Athletic Center.
Crown (4-5) trailed 61-60 after Nicole Cummins' free throw gave the Vikings the lead with six seconds remaining. The Storm called timeout and got the ball to Kayla Carter, who missed a 12-foot baseline jumper. Stricklin went over a Lawrence player to grab the rebound and score.
The Vikings called timeout and advanced the ball to the frontcourt with 0.7 seconds left, but Lawrence didn't get a shot off before the buzzer sounded.
Kenya Earl posted a double-double for Lawrence (2-7) with game highs of 22 points and 15 rebounds. Earl also picked up three assists and a block. Erin Hill added nine points and four rebounds for the Vikings, and Nicole Cummins had five steals and three assists.
Desiree Davis led Crown with 20 points, nine rebounds and nine steals.
After trailing 21-18 at the half, Lawrence looked like it was seizing control of the game in the third quarter. Earl scored nine points in the quarter and Olivia Hoesley had five as the Vikings pulled out to a 42-36 lead after three quarters.
Lawrence was up 54-49 after a pair of Grace Minogue free throws with 1:36 left, but Crown scored the game's next five points with the help of two Lawrence turnovers to tie the game at 54-54 with 23 seconds remaining.
After another Lawrence turnover, Stricklin missed a 16-foot jumper, and Hill grabbed the rebound. The Storm fouled Natalie Kramer with five seconds left, but she was unable to connect on the free throws and the game went to overtime.
The game went back and forth in the overtime and Lawrence went up 60-58 on a pair of Hill free throws with 1:13 remaining. Carter tied the game at 60-60 with a pair of free throws with 1:00 left to set up the key plays in the final seconds.
