HANCOCK, Mich. -- A third-quarter surge Wednesday allowed the Finlandia University women's basketball team to pull away for a 74-58 nonconference win over Lawrence University at the Paavo Nurmi Center.

Finlandia went on an 11-0 run early in the third period to build a 15-point advantage, and Lawrence never got closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Julia Daavettila scored 32 points on 10-of-16 shooting for Finlandia (5-15).

Kenya Earl paced Lawrence (5-13) with 24 points, and she grabbed six rebounds. Leah Reeves added 13 points for the Vikings, and Erin Hill pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Lawrence battled back from an 11-point deficit in the second quarter as Reeves hit a jumper and Grace Minogue buried a three-pointer in the final 40 seconds of the half to trim Finlandia's lead to 38-32 at the break.

The teams traded baskets early in the third quarter and Reeves' jumper cut the margin to 40-36 with 8:08 left in the third. The Lions then hit three consecutive three-pointers and Molly Berg added a layup to give Finlandia a 51-36 lead with 5:58 remaing in the quarter.

The Vikings held Finlandia scoreless for the final 4:02 of the quarter and scored the final six points of the quarter, capped by an Olivia Hoesley three-pointer and a Minogue jumper, to cut the margin to 55-46 after three.

Finlandia scored the first two baskets of the fourth quarter to put the margin back to 59-46, and Lawrence never got closer than 11 points after that.
