RIPON, Wis. -- The Ripon College women's basketball team turned away a Lawrence University comeback Tuesday to post a 63-47 Midwest Conference victory at Weiske Gymnasium.
Kenya Earl led Lawrence with game highs of 22 points and seven rebounds as she went 5-for-9 from the floor and 10-for-11 from the foul line. Earl now has 415 points on the season to break the season scoring mark of 408 set by Lawrence Hall of Famer Claire Getzoff in 2002-03.
Leah Reeves added 12 points and four rebounds for the Vikings (7-17, 5-10).
Emma McDonald paced Ripon (16-7, 13-2) with 16 points, and Lawrence limited Ripon star Maggie Oimoen to 14 points on 5-for-14 shooting from the floor.
The Red Hawks raced out to a big early lead and held a 22-6 edge with 8:20 remaining in the second quarter. Lawrence countered by going on a 16-6 run, capped by Reeves' three-point play, to cut the lead to 28-22 with 2:11 left in the first half.
Earl scored nine points during that outburst, including a three-point play and a three-pointer. Ripon then pushed the lead back to 36-26 at the half.
Earl and Reeves again led the way as Lawrence trimmed Ripon's lead to 42-37 with an 11-6 run to start the third quarter. Earl scored seven points, sandwiched around a pair of jumpers from Reeves, to cut the margin to five.
Ripon pushed the lead back to 48-39 after three quarters and opened the fourth with a jumper by Oimoen. Reeves hit another jumper for the Vikings to cut the lead back to 50-41, but Ripon scored the next eight points.
Lawrence never got closer than 14 points after that.
