RIPON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's basketball team fell behind by double digits midway through the third quarter Saturday at Ripon College, and the Red Hawks went on to a 63-51 Midwest Conference win at Weiske Gymnasium.
Kenya Earl paced Lawrence with 19 points, and she collected four rebounds. Shonell Benjamin added nine points for the Vikings, and Grace Minogue added eight points and three rebounds off the bench in her most extended playing time of the season. Minogue went 3-for-4 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the foul line in 24 minutes.
Maggie Oimoen led Ripon (13-8, 12-2 MWC) with a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds.
Lawrence (5-15, 2-12) scored the first six points of the game and still led by six at 17-11 after Karina Herrera's jumper early in the second quarter. The teams traded the lead throughout the second quarter before Ripon took a 32-28 lead at the half.
Ripon opened the second half with on a 9-2 run to pull out to a 41-30 edge with 5:10 left in the third quarter. Arianna Neumeyer buried a 3-pointer to stop the run for the Vikings and cut the lead to 41-33. Earl hit another 3-pointer a minute later to close to 43-36.
Ripon would push the lead back to 50-39 after three quarters, but the Vikings closed in again early in the fourth. Erin Hill, who led the Vikings with four assists, hit a jumper, Leah Reeves followed with a jumper and Earl hit a 3-pointer to open the final quarter and trim the lead to 52-46 with 8:16 left.
Ripon hit back-to-back jumpers to pull out to a 56-46 edge, and Lawrence could get no closer than eight points the rest of the way as the Vikings went 1-for-5 from the field and committed four turnovers in the final six minutes.
