DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Lawrence University women's basketball team dropped a 74-56 nonconference decision to UW-Platteville on Sunday in the semifinals of the Loras College Christmas Tournament at the Athletic Wellness Center.
Lawrence (4-4) will face North Park University in Monday's third-place game.
Kenya Earl led Lawrence with a game-high 17 points, and Shonell Benjamin was the other Viking in double figures with 11 points. Ashley Batac came off the bench for the Vikings and added eight points, and fellow rookie Emma Carlson had a team-best five rebounds to go with five points.
Morgan Horstman led Platteville (8-2) with 14 points.
Lawrence fell behind by double digits in the first quarter and trailed 29-13 headed to the second quarter. The Vikings were down by as many as 24 points in the second quarter and trailed 49-26 at the half.
The Vikings got a 3-pointer from Delaney Brooks to finish the third quarter, and that cut the Platteville lead to 62-43. Lawrence opened the fourth quarter by scoring the first five points, and that run was capped by Karina Herrera's three-point play to cut the lead to 63-48.
The Pioneers then hit a 3-pointer, and Lawrence didn't get closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
Earl moved up two places on Lawrence's career scoring list on Sunday as she passed Kelly Mulcahy and Krista Tomter to slide into sixth place. Earl now has 972 points and is just four points away from passing Katherine Lofgren for fifth place.
