COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Lawrence University standout Nathan Schlesinger grabbed second place in men's foil Saturday to lead the Vikings at the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships at French Field House.
Schlesinger posted five consecutive victories before meeting Ohio State's Stas Sudilovsky in the gold medal match. Schlesinger took down Ohio State's William Gaziano 15-8 un the semifinals before falling to Sudilovsky 15-7 in the final.
Lawrence's Joe Davis posted a fifth-place finish in men's sabre. Davis won a pair of matches before falling 15-8 to Ohio State's Andrew Herczak in the quarterfinals. Davis then came back to top Michigan's David Cichocki before beating Detroit Mercy's Wiley Dressell 15-14 in the fifth-place match.
In men's epee, the top finishers for the Vikings were Cameron Maas, who placed 11th, and Jakub Nowak, who finished 17th.
Maria Boulandier Leza led the Lawrence women's contingent with a seventh-place finish in epee. Boulandier Leza reached the quarterfinals before falling to Ohio State's Emma von Dadelszen 15-3. Boulandier Leza bounced back and defeated the Buckeyes' Caira Moreira-Brown for seventh place. Lawrence's Maggie Wright finished 10th in epee.
