Fencing opens season at North American Cup

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Vinzenz Mayer and Lexi Praxl were the top finishers for the Lawrence University fencing team as it competed in the North American Cup at the Wisconsin Center.

In Division I men's epee, Mayer posted a 4-2 record in pool play. He then defeated Jackson Huemer 15-12 in the round of 256 before dropping a 15-7 decision to Cole Mallette in the round of 128. Noah Bradley finished with a 1-5 record in pool play.

Mayer and Bradley also participated in the Division I classification event with Mayer taking 46th and Bradley finishing tied for 86th. Mayer went 4-2 in pool play and then defeated Maxwell Seabury in the round of 128 before a 15-13 loss to Julian Maldonado in the round of 64. Bradley went 3-3 in pool play before a 15-14 loss to Oliver Proctor in the round of 128.

Alex Loundy went 6-0 in pool play in Division II men's foil but fell 15-14 to Benjamin Anglin in the round of 256. Loundy finished 144th.

In Division II women's sabre, Praxl finished with a 3-3 mark in pool play before being eliminated with a 15-8 loss to Shreya Reddy in the round of 32. She finished tied for 43rd. Carson Becker competed in Division II women's epee and went 2-4 in pool play before a 15-12 loss to Ashley Young in round of 128. Becker finished tied for 91st.
