Nowak takes epee title at Remenyik Open

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Lawrence University fencer Jakub Nowak took the title in Division 1-A men's epee this weekend at the Remenyik Open at Ryan Fieldhouse.

Nowak won five consecutive bouts in the elimination rounds and finished his day with a 15-10 victory over John Marshall in the championship bout. Nowak had a 9-2 record on the day after posting a 4-2 mark in pool play.

In the same division, Cameron Maas finished 16th and Vinzenz Mayer was 35th. Maas went 5-1 in pool play before falling in the round of 16, and Mayer went 3-3 in pool play and lost in the first round.

Maggie Wright led the women by placing ninth in Junior Women's Epee. She went 5-1 in pool play and made it to the round of 16 before a tough 15-14 loss. She also placed 28th in Division 1-A Epee.

Lexi Praxl finished 20th and Junior Women's Sabre, and Bettina Coker was 22nd and Samantha Hansen was 29th in Junior Women's Foil. Coker also finished 35th in Division 1-A Women's Foil.

Timothy Parker finished 24th in both Division 1-A Men's Sabre and in Junior Men's Sabre. Alex Loundy was 26th in Division 1-A Men's Foil, and Sam Driver was 28th Junior Men's Foil.
