DETROIT, Mich. -- Lawrence University men's epee standout Jakub Nowak led the way Saturday with a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships at Calihan Hall.
Nowak took seventh after posting a 10-6 record during the pool competition. Nowak recorded 62 touches and was a plus-5 on the day. Nowak was one of three Vikings that placed in the top 16 in epee. Vinzenz Mayer finished 14th with a 4-12 mark, and Cameron Maas was 16th with a 4-12 record.
Lawrence men's sabre placed two fencers in the top 12. Tim Parker took 11th for the Vikings with a 5-10 record, and Ben Kelsey was 12th with a 4-11 mark.
On the women's side, Allison Kim was Lawrence's top finisher as she took 12th in sabre. Kim made it through the first round of pool competition with a 2-3 record and was able to collect a victory during the final round of fencing. Teammate Lexi Praxl took 16th with an 0-5 record.
Maggie Wright took 14th and Carson Becker was 15th in women's epee. Wright was the 13th seed and finished with a 1-4 mark in the second round of pool competition. Becker had to take part in the opening round of pool competition and went 2-2 to advance to the next round where she finished 1-4.
Bettina Coker placed 14th for the Vikings in women's foil and went 1-4 in the pool competition.
