APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University women's soccer team has won the Team Academic Award from the United Soccer Coaches.

The Lawrence women posted a team grade point average of 3.43 for the 2016-17 academic year to pick up the honor for the 17th time since 2000.

The Vikings, coached by Lisa Sammons, were one of six programs in the Midwest Conference to be honored. To earn the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Lawrence had 10 players receive Academic All-Midwest Conference honors for the 2016-17 school year, and that requires a minimum 3.33 grade point average.

The Vikings return to action on Saturday when they host Rockford University on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
