APPLETON, Wis. -- Samantha Tolu had a hat trick, and the Lawrence University women's soccer team held Rockford University without a shot in a 5-0 nonconference win Friday night on Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
Tolu scored the game's first goal midway through the opening half and then added a pair of unassisted tallies in the second half for the first hat trick of her career. Tolu, a first-year forward, has four goals in the season's first three games.
Lawrence piled up a 34-0 edge in shots as the Vikings wore down the Regents with a relentless attack. Lawrence rookie goalkeeper Sydney Dumke picked up her first career shutout. Amelia Harper played the first 68 minutes in net for the Regents and made 12 saves.
Tolu got the scoring started at the 25:44 mark when she took a cross from Ellie Younger and deposited it into the back of the net. Fellow rookie forward Jackie Blake scored her first collegiate goal less than three minutes later off a feed from Natalya Harp for a 2-0 lead.
Lawrence maintained that edge going into the second half, and Tolu broke the game open with a pair of unassisted goals. Tolo scored in the 58th minute and completed the hat trick with goal in the 71st minute after a flurry of Lawrence shots.
Lawrence returns to action on Saturday when the Vikings travel to UW-River Falls for a nonconference game.
