APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University women's soccer standout Samantha Tolu has been selected as the Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Tolu (San Mateo, Calif./Carlmont), a rookie forward, got her first career hat trick in Lawrence's 5-0 victory over Rockford University. Tolu has four goals this season through the first four games.
Tolu got the scoring started against Rockford with a goal in the 26th minute. The Vikings led 2-0 at the half when Tolu scored an unassisted goal in the 58th minute to put the Vikings up 3-0. She added another unassisted goal in the 71st minute to complete the hat trick.
It's the first weekly award for Tolo, who became the second Lawrence player to be honored this season. Goalkeeper Sarah Yochem was named the Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 3. Tolu is the first Lawrence player to win Offensive Player of the Week honors since Casey Merkle did it in 2015.
