Lawrence women third, men fourth at Gene Davis Invitational

APPLETON, Wis. -- Anton Hutchinson won two events for the Lawrence University men's swim team, and the Lawrence women won a pair of relays at Saturday's Gene Davis Invitational at Boldt Natatorium.

The Lawrence women finished third in the team standings with 506 points, and Carroll University took the title with 582. The Lawrence men were fourth with 347, and Lake Forest College was first with 547.

The Lawrence team of Eryn Blagg, Lizzy Garcia, Mandy Marsh and Bridget Duero won both the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay. They posted a winning time of 1:46.22 in the 200 freestyle relay and swam to victory in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:51.70.

Erin Lengel won one event and placed third in two others for the Vikings. Lengel grabbed first in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.75 and took third in the 200 butterfly (2:20.90) and the 100 backstroke (1:03.14).

Elise Riggle took the other win for the Lawrence women as she took first in the 500 freestyle in 5:35.41. Riggle also took second in the 400 individual medley in 5:01.75. 

Emmi Zheng had a second and a pair of third-place finishes. She was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:21.12 and third in the 200 individual medley (2:24.22) and 200 breaststroke (2:40.42). Blagg also posted a third in the 200 freestyle in 2:06.70.

On the men's side, Hutchinson was first in the 200 freestyle in 1:51.21 and in the 500 freestyle in 4:58.21. Hutchinson also swam a leg on the third-place 400 freestyle relay (3:27.17) and teamed with Travis Charlow, Charlie Phillips and Akio Yamamoto.

Phillips also posted a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly in 2:10.85 and a third in the 500 freestyle in 5:10.86. 

Max Stahl took second in the 100 backstroke in 58.20 seconds, and Charlow was third in 58.48. Stahl also grabbed third in the 200 backstroke in 2:07.77. Tom Goldberg posted a third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke in 2:30.57.
