GRINNELL, Iowa -- Lawrence University standout Erin Lengel posted a trio of top-three finishes to lead the women to a third-place finish at the Pioneer Classic at Grinnell College this weekend.
Lengel took second in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.13 and grabbed second in the 500 freestyle in 5:25.56. She also finished third in the 200 butterfly in 2:21.00.
Elise Riggle also recorded a top-three finish as she took third in the 1,650 freestyle in 19:17.80. Teammate Emei Thompson was sixth in 20:02.86. Riggle also grabbed fifth in the 400 individual medley in 4:59.00 and eighth in the 500 freestyle in 5:35.62. Thompson also posted a sixth place in the 200 freestyle in 2:04.40. The other top individual finisher for the Vikings was Eryn Blagg, who was sixth in the 200 individual medley in 2:25.87.
Lawrence had four top-six finishes among its relay teams. The 200 freestyle relay of Lengel, Blagg, Mandy Marsh and Lizzy Garcia was fourth in 1:46.22. The 400 freestyle relay of Lengel, Blagg, Marsh and Bridget Duero was fifth in 3:51.48. The 800 freestyle relay of Blagg, Duero, Thompson and Riggle took sixth in 8:44.92, and the 400 medley relay of Riggle, Lengel, Marsh and Rosie Bauer grabbed sixth in 4:28.32.
Lawrence finished with 484 points to take third place. Gustavus Adolphus won the team title with 1898.5 points.
On the men's side, Lawrence took seventh place with 289 points, and Gustuvus won the team title with 1381.5 points.
Anton Hutchinson recorded a pair of top-four finishes to pace the Vikings. He took second in the 200 freestyle in 1:48.76 and grabbed fourth in the 500 freestyle in 4:55.39. The other top individual finisher for Lawrence was Charlie Phillips, who was eighth in the 1,650 freestyle in 18:00.26.
The 800 freestyle relay of Hutchinson, Phillips, Tom Goldberg and Jordan Spalding grabbed fifth in 7:41.95, and the 200 medley relay of Goldberg, Travis Charlow, Max Stahl and Akio Yamamoto was eighth in 1:43.82.
