APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University diver Maddy Smith has been named the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week.
Smith (Oshkosh, Wis./West), a first-year student, earned the honor after her performance at the Grinnell College Pioneer Classic last weekend. Smith took second place in both the 3-meter and 1-meter diving at Grinnell's Pioneer Classic and earned a berth in the NCAA Division III Diving Regional.
Smith was second on the 1-meter board with a score of 406.20 and was second on the 3-meter board with a score of 400.20. Smith played a big role in helping Lawrence to a third-place finish in the team standings.
This is the first MWC Performer of the Week award for Smith, and it's the third time this season a Lawrence athlete has been honored. Sophomore Erin Lengel has won the award twice this season.
Lawrence returns to action on Dec. 13 when it competes at the Fun In The Sun Classic in Venice, Fla.
