Smith finishes 23rd on 1-meter board at NCAA Regional

Lawrence's Maddy Smith competed at the NCAA Central Regional.

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- Lawrence University's Maddy Smith finished 23rd on Friday at the NCAA Division III Central Diving Regional at the Class of 1950 Natatorium at Wabash College.

Smith compiled a score of 346.75 in the 11-dive competition, and Agnes Lo of the University of Chicago was the regional champion with a score of 444.20. Smith, a first-year student from Oshkosh, Wis., is the first Lawrence women's diver to ever reach the NCAA Regional and had an average of score of 31.52 per dive.

Smith's top dive of the day was a forward two somersaults in the pike position, and she received a score of 37.95. She scored 37.80 on back 1 1/2 somersaults with a half-twist.

Smith's top individual score of the day, a 7.5, came on an inward dive in the pike position. She scored a total of 29.25 on that dive.

Smith will compete in the 3-meter competition on Saturday.
