Lengel's record-setting swim leads Lawrence women to third; men fifth at MWC Championships

Erin Lengel set MWC and meet records as she won the 100 freestyle.

GRINNELL, Iowa -- Lawrence University swimming star Erin Lengel grabbed her second title of the weekend and set meet and league records at the Midwest Conference Championships at Osgood Pool.

Lengel won the 100-yard freestyle in 52.81 seconds and broke her own conference and championships record of 52.83, which she set in 2019. Lengel won the event by nearly a second as Lake Forest College's Kylie Morgan took second in 53.80. Lawrence's Mandy Marsh finished sixth in 55.35 seconds.

Led by Lengel, Lawrence finished third in the team standings with 429.5 points, and Lake Forest took the title with 898. 

Lawrence also went 2-3 in the 1,650 freestyle as Mae Grahs grabbed the second spot in 18:35.55 and Elise Riggle was right on her heels as she took third in 18:37.60.

Lawrence's 400 freestyle relay team of Marsh, Grahs, Lengel and Bridget Duero took third in 3:41.53.

On the men's side, the Vikings finished fifth with 339 points, and Grinnell College won the title with 915.5.

Anton Hutchinson paced the Vikings as he took third in the 1,650 freestyle in 16:36.10. Liam Wulfman grabbed fourth in the 200 backstroke in 1:56.24, and Charlie Phillips was eighth in the 200 butterfly in 1:59.81.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Hutchinson, Phillips, Wulfman and Davis Wukovits took fourth in 3:13.07.
