Doubles teams stopped in semis at MWC Championships

MADISON, Wis. -- Two Lawrence University women's doubles teams reached the semifinals to highlight the Vikings' finishes on Saturday at the Midwest Conference Championships.

Both the No. 1 doubles team of Margot Connor and Emma Koppa and the No. 3 team of Lauren Aturaliya and Amelia Watson both reached the championship semifinals.

The No. 2 team of Morgan Fisher and Jacki Healy reached the consolation championship.

Connor and Koppa opened with an 8-3 victory over Illinois College in the quarterfinals before dropping an 8-1 decision to Grinnell College in the semifinals. Aturaliya and Watson topped Cornell College 8-5 in the quarterfinals before an 8-1 loss to Lake Forest College in the semifinals.

Fisher and Healy lost a tough quarterfinal match to St. Norbert 8-7, dropping the tiebreaker 7-5. Fisher and Healy bounced back to beat Knox College 8-1 in the consolation semifinals before an 8-3 loss to Monmouth College in the consolation final.

The championship wrap up with singles play on Sunday.
