GALESBURG, Ill. -- Lawrence University track and field standout Josh Janusiak raced to victory in the 10,000 meters Friday at the Midwest Conference Championships.
A sophomore from South Milwaukee, Wis., Janusiak took the conference title in 33:11.71 at Knox College's Trevor Field. Janusiak pulled away from Cornell College's Caleb Wilson, who was second in 33:23.29. Lawrence freshman Joe Kortenhof, racing in the 10,000 for the first time, took sixth in 34:34.48.
It was the first outdoor conference title for Janusiak, who won the 5,000 at the league's indoor championships in March. He also took the league's cross country championship last fall.
Lawrence also had two other athletes place on the men's side on Friday. Wes Hetcher grabbed fifth in the pole vault at 12 feet, 6 inches. Jackson Straughan grabbed seventh in the shot put at 42-10.25.
On the women's side, the top finisher was junior Hannah Kinzer, who raced to fourth place in the 10,000 in 42:04.83.
Kate Kilgus grabbed seventh place in the 1,500 in 4:55.06.
Complete results and team scores were not available Friday night due to a technical issue. The competition wraps up Saturday.
