WAUKESHA, Wis. -- Lawrence University track and field standout Will Nichols won two events and Josh Janusiak captured another Saturday to lead the Vikings at the Wisconsin Private College Championships at the Dennis Punches Complex.
Nichols, a sophomore sprinter, won the 100 and 200 meters and ran on the second-place 4x100 relay. Nichols grabbed first in the 100 meters in 11.55 seconds in cold and windy conditions to edge Jacob Roy of Concordia University of Wisconsin. Nichols then nipped Paxton Smith of Viterbo University in the 200 meters. Nichols was first in 22.62 seconds, and Smith was second in 22.65.
Nichols also teamed with Ethan Simmons, Tom Goldberg and Alex DuVall to grab second in the 4x100 relay in 45.81 seconds. Beloit College took the title in 44.46 seconds.
Janusiak led a 1-2 finish for the Vikings in the 5,000 as Joe Kortenhof grabbed second place, and the Lawrence duo dominated the event. Janusiak was first in 15:25.31, and Kortenhof raced to second in 15:35.75. There was a 23-second gap behind Kortenhof before the third-place finisher crossed the line.
Gabe Baker led Lawrence's contingent in the field events as he placed in two events. Baker grabbed fourth in the discus with a throw of 124 feet, and he tooks seventh in the hammer throw with a distance of 120-4. Simmons grabbed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 19-2.75.
Lawrence took sixth in the team standings with 62 points, and Concordia won the title with 107.
Hintz also grabbed sixth in the 200 in 28.10 seconds. Hallie Sogin captured sixth in the 400 hurdles in 1:16.65.
Lawrence was ninth in the team standings with 12 points, and St. Norbert College won the title with 147.
