Chand wins mile to lead Vikings at Pointer Alumni Open

Lawrence opened the season at the Pointer Alumni Open.

STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- Alex Chand led won the mile run Saturday to lead the Lawrence University track and field teams as they opened their season at the Pointer Alumni Open at Quandt Fieldhouse.

Chand finished first in the mile in 5:31.28 and teammate Leah Hawksford was second in 5:42.97. Lawrence's Christina Sedall took sixth in 5:54.60.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Mikaela Hintz, Alyssa Kuss, Claire Schrier and Emily Hoeft grabbed second place in 4:33.86. Schrier also ran to fifth place in the 400 in 1:09.09, and Brynn Schroeder was sixth in 1:16.96. 

Sara Klemme posted a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 11.60 meters.

On the men's side, Josh Janusiak was the top individual finisher as three Vikings finished in the top five in the mile. Janusiak was third in 4:29.72, Cullan Allard was fourth in 4:40.41 and Billy Daniels was fifth in 4:41.51.

The 4x400 team of Mik Patel, Allard, Ethan Simmons and Cole Foster was second in 3:53.57. Simmons also finished fifth in the 200 ni 24.41 seconds.
