Janusiak runs to impressive win in 5,000 at MWC Championships

Josh Janusiak won the 5,000 meters on the opening day of the Midwest Conference Championships.

MONMOUTH, Ill. -- Lawrence University track and field star Josh Janusiak made it a three-peat on Friday when he won the 5,000 meters on the opening day of the Midwest Conference Championships at the Huff Athletic Center.

Janusiak won the 5,000 for the third consecutive season and did it in impressive fashion. The senior from South Milwaukee, Wis., won the title in 15:00.51 to top the second-place finisher, Lake Forest College's Jorge Villanueva, by more than 11 seconds. He finished in 15:11.84.

Janusiak has now won five conference track titles in his career, three indoors and two outdoors, to go with three league cross country titles.

Lawrence also collected points in the mile and 4x200 relay. Cullen Allard finished eighth in the mile in 4:33.19, and the 4x200 relay team of Sheldon Garmon, Cameron Wicks, Wasonu Allen and Ethan Simmons was eighth in 1:40.61.

The Lawrence men are in ninth place in the team standings with 12 points.

On the women's side, the top finisher was the 1,600 sprint medley relay team of Mikaela Hintz, Nora Robinson, Emily Hoeft and Claire Schrier, which took sixth in 4:26.63.

Molly Doruska posted the top individual finish with a seventh place in the 5,000 in 19:37.78.

The Lawrence women are in ninth place with five points.

The championships wrap up on Saturday.
