Lawrence picks up multiple wins at Viking Invitational

Lawrence's Emily Hoeft took third in the triple jump and ran on the Vikings' third-place 4x400 relay team.

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University track and field team picked up three wins Saturday at the Viking Invitational at Whiting Field.

Billy Daniels and Cullen Allard were winners on the men's side, and Alex Chand grabbed a victory on the women's side.

Daniels led a 1-2 finish by the Vikings in the 5,000 meters. Daniels ran to first place in 16:24.22 and Sam Marrese-Wheeler was second in 16:44.63. 

Allard grabbed the lead on the final lap of the 1,500 meters and went on to the victory in 4:13.16. Allard won by more than a second over the second-place finisher from St. Norbert College.

Also on the men's side, the 4x400 relay team of Ethan Simmons, Allard, Julian Garcia and Cameron Wicks took second in 3:42.10, and Tom Goldberg took third in the javelin with a toss of 119 feet, 11 inches.

Chand took first in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:46.59, and the Vikings also grabbed a pair of second-place finishes. Leah Hawksford was second in the 1,500 in 5:09.47, and Brielle Petit was second in the hammer throw with a toss of 126-4.

Emily Hoeft took third in the triple jump with a distance of 31-11.5, and Natalie LaMonto was third in the 800 in 2:32.10. The 4x400 relay team of Hoeft, LaMonto, Hallie Sogin and Mikaela Hintz also took third in 4:19.76.
