RIPON, Wis. -- Lawrence University's Mik Patel and Fiona Shine both won the 400 meters on Saturday at the Red Hawk Opener at the Willmore Center.
On the men's side, Patel grabbed first in the 400 with a time of 53.35 seconds to edge Ripon College's Matt Thompson, who was second in 53.39. Lawrence's Ethan Simmons took fourth in 55.14 seconds.
Fiona Shine raced to first in the women's 400 in 1:04.62 as she finished more than a second ahead of Ripon's Peyton Rahn, who was second in 1:05.67. Lawrence's Mikaela Hintz was third in 1:06.15 and Emily Sugiyama was fourth in 1:06.64. Lawrence's Leah Hawksford grabbed third in the 800 in 2:29.86.
Lawrence's Joe Kortenhof took second in the mile with a time of 4:32.82 as he was nipped by Viterbo University's Isaiah Temple with a winning time of 4:32.53.
Lawrence also posted two runners in the top four in the men's 3,000 as Aaron Arthur took third in 9:28.29 and Billy Daniels was fourth in 9:33.65.
The Vikings raced to second in the men's 4x200 relay in 1:38.29 and took fourth in the 4x400 relay in 3:42.09.
On the women's side, the 4x400 relay team took third in 4:20.92 and the 4x200 relay was fifth in 1:58.36.
