APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University volleyball standout Cyra Bammer was named the Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week following a pair of road victories last weekend.

Bammer (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville), a senior defensive specialist, piled up 61 digs as the Vikings won a pair of five-set road matches against Midwest Conference opponents. This is the third time Bammer has captured the award, adding to the two she collected in the 2016 season.

Bammer had a match-high 29 digs as Lawrence defeated Monmouth College 3-2. The Vikings rallied and won the fourth set 25-21 before taking the decisive fifth set 15-9. Bammer followed that with a match-high 32 digs as Lawrence rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 at Knox the following day. After digging a deep hole, the Vikings won sets three and four 25-18 and then won four of the final five points to take the fifth set 15-12.

Bammer, who also picked up seven assists in each match and a pair of service aces, averaged 6.1 digs per set for the two matches.

Lawrence returns to conference action on Tuesday when the Vikings host Beloit College.
