Lawrence rallies from two sets down to top Monmouth

Lawrence's Arianna Neumeyer had 20 kills and Sophia Galassini added 13 in a 3-2 win over Monmouth.

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University volleyball team rallied from two sets down Saturday to post a 3-2 Midwest Conference win over Monmouth College at Alexander Gymnasium.

The Vikings downed the Scots 20-25, 16-25, 25-22, 25-19, 15-12.

Arianna Neumeyer led Lawrence with 20 kills and 17 digs, and Sophia Galassini added 13 kills and seven blocks. 

Tamia Cephus paced the Vikings with 27 assists, and Averie Miller collected 23. Lawrence's Liza Stalcup chipped in with eight kills and four blocks, and Jordan Adamson added six blocks and four kills.

After dropping the first two sets, Lawrence was tied 19-19 in the third set when the Vikings went on a 6-3 run to finish the set. Neumeyer and Galassini both picked up kills during the decisive run.

Lawrence pulled away midway through the fourth set and led 20-10. Monmouth closed to 23-19 before Lawrence closed out the set and tied the match 2-2.

The fifth set was tied 9-9 before the Vikings got kills from Cephus, Adamson and Neumeyer to grab a 12-9 edge. An Adamson kill gave Lawrence a 14-11 lead, and Emily Hoeft got the final kill to close out the set and deliver the win for Lawrence.
