Vikings sweep past Mount Mary

ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Lawrence University volleyball team used a balanced attack Friday to defeat Mount Mary University 3-0 at the Rockford Invitational.

Lawrence downed the Blue Angels 25-21, 25-17, 25-10.

Caitlin Chambers paced the Vikings with nine kills, and Elizabeth Liebau and Sophia Galassini added eight kills apiece. 

Lawrence setter Averie Miller picked up a match-best 29 assists and added five kills. Laurice Lavajo paced the Vikings with 16 digs, and Alyssa Sorensen added 12.

Lawrence got out of the gate a touch slow, but the Vikings took over late in the first set and dominated from that point. The first set was tied 19-19, but Lawrence scored six of the next eight points to take the lead.

Lawrence pulled out to an early 10-4 lead in the second set and Mount Mary never got closer than four points the rest of the way. Lawrence led the third set 9-8 and then finished the match on a 16-2 run to complete the sweep.
