Vikings get it rolling against North Central

Sophia Galassini picked up 12 kills in Lawrence's win over North Central.

ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Lawrence University volleyball team won three straight sets Saturday to post a 3-1 nonconference victory over North Central (Minn.) University at the Rockford Invitational.

Lawrence dropped the opening set 25-23, but the Vikings roared back to win 25-14, 25-19, 25-18. 

Caitlin Chambers led Lawrence with 14 kills, and Sophia Galassini added 12 kills with just one error in 20 attacks for an impressive .550 hitting percentage. Galassini also picked up a match-high six blocks.

Jordan Adamson added nine kills, and Liza Stalcup chipped in with seven for the Vikings. Setter Averie Miller piled up 39 assists for the Vikings and collected seven kills, a team-high 11 digs and two blocks.

After dropping a tight first set, the Vikings trailed 7-4 in the second set before taking off. Lawrence went on a 7-1 run and steadily pulled away to take the second set. 

Lawrence took an early lead in the third set before North Central rallied to tie it at 16-16. Back-to-back kills by Galassini put Lawrence up 20-17 and the Vikings wen on to win that set by six points.

In the fourth set, North Central led 14-12, but the Vikings went on a 13-4 outburst to close out the set and the match.
