Vikings fall to Grinnell

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 Midwest Conference decision to Grinnell College on Saturday at Alexander Gymnasium.

Grinnell defeated the Vikings 25-17, 25-16, 25-13.

Liza Stalcup picked up six kills in nine attempts to lead the Vikings. Four other players had three kills apiece for Lawrence.

Averie Miller collected 14 assists for the Vikings, and Marife Entenza led the team with seven digs. Sophia Galassini paced Lawrence with six blocks.

In the opening set, Lawrence closed Grinnell's lead to 12-9 on Jordan Adamson's kills, but the Pioneers then pulled away. Grinnell went on a 9-2 run to seize control.

Grinnell took control early in the second set, but Lawrence went on a 10-1 run to tie the score at 14-14. Miller and Adamson both had a pair of kills during that stretch. The set was tied at 16-16 before the Pioneers rattled off the next nine points to close out the set.

The Pioneers raced out to an 11-1 lead in the third set and closed out the match.
