Trio powers Vikings past Beloit

APPLETON, Wis. -- The trio of Elizabeth Liebau, Jordan Adamson and Sophia Galassini powered the Lawrence University volleyball team to a 3-1 Midwest Conference victory over Beloit College on Saturday at Alexander Gymnasium.

Lawrence defeated the Bucs 18-25, 25-21, 25-12, 25-22.

Liebau led the Vikings with 17 kills, Adamson had 15 kills and Galassini added 13 to account for 45 of Lawrence's 54 kills. Galassini hit at a .370 clip, with Adamson at .344 and Liebau at 222. The Vikings hit .216 as a team.

Averie Miller piled up 51 assists for the Vikings and added seven digs and a pair of aces. Laurice Lavajo led the Vikings with 16 digs, and Alyssa Sorensen added nine. Galassini also picked up four blocks and Adamson had three.

After dropping the opening set, Lawrence bounced back and eventually built a 19-15 lead on Miller's ace. The Bucs never got closer than three points after that as the Vikings closed out the set with kills by Galassini and Adamson.

Lawrence raced out to a 14-1 lead in the third set and ripped off 10 consecutive points, capping that outburst with a Galassini kill. The Bucs never got closer than 11 points the rest of the set.

The fourth set was tight throughout, but a pair of kills from Adamson and Miller ace helped Lawrence build a one-point lead to a 20-17 advantage. Beloit closed to 20-19 but key kills by Adamson and Liebau gave the Vikings a 23-21 lead. The Vikings then got back-to-back kills from Galassini to close out the set and the match.
