Lawrence drops MWC match to Rams

APPLETON, Wis. -- The Lawrence University volleyball team lost a 3-0 Midwest Conference decision to Cornell College on Friday at Alexander Gymnasium.

The Rams topped the Vikings 25-12, 25-20, 25-20 to move to 6-0 in the conference.

Elizabeth Liebau paced the Vikings with 11 kills with Caitlin Chambers added eight and Jordan Adamson seven. Sophia Galassini chipped in with six kills and three aces.

Averie Miller handed out 26 assists for the Vikings, collected eight digs and picked up a pair of aces. Laurice Lavajo paced the Vikings with 11 digs.

Cornell came out hot and hit .636 in the opening set. The Vikings bounced back in the second set after the Rams raced out to a 15-6 edge. Lawrence went on a 9-4 run to trim the lead to 20-15, but that's as close as the Vikings would get.

The third set was tied 10-10 after a kill by Chambers, but Cornell went on a 10-3 run to stretch the advantage to 20-13. The Vikings battled back with a 6-2, capped by a Chambers kill, to trim the advantage to 22-19. The Rams then picked up three of the next four points to close out the set and the match.
