APPLETON, Wis. -- Lawrence University cross country star Josh Janusiak won the Gene Davis Invitational for the second consecutive year on Saturday, and he raced to a course record in the process.
Janusiak covered the 8,000-meter layout at Reid Golf Course in 25:03.44 to win by 36 seconds over the second-place finisher, Jorge Villanueva of Lake Forest College. Lawrence's Joe Kortenhof took third place in 26:11.23.
Janusiak shattered his own meet record of 25:43, which he set in 2017, and the course record of 25:40, set at the 2014 Midwest Conference Championships. This also marks the third win in three races this season for Janusiak.
Cullan Allard took 35th for the Vikings in 27:54, Ben Schaefer was 49th in 28:43 and Sam Marrese-Wheeler was 50th in 28:44 to round out the scoring for Lawrence. The Vikings were sixth in the team standings with 138 points, and the Wisconsin Track Club took the team title with 69 points.
On the women's side, Leah Hawksford led Lawrence by taking 23rd as she covered the 6,000 meters in 24:37.
Lawrence took seventh with 190 points, and Carroll University was first with 39. Carroll's Emily Kraus was the individual winner in 23:09.
