WINNECONNE, Wis. -- Lawrence University cross country standout Joe Kortenhof raced to 37th place Saturday at the huge KollegeTown Invitational.
Kortenhof covered the 8,000 meters at Lake Breeze Golf Course in 25:43.5 to easily earn the top finisher by a Midwest Conference runner at the event, which features many of the nation's top NCAA Division III teams. The next runner from the MWC was 30 seconds behind Kortenhof.
Nick Matteuicci of Washington (Mo.) University was the winner in 24:43.1.
Led by Kortenhof, Lawrence finished 18th in the team standings with 569. Perennial national champion North Central College won the title with 46.
Cullen Allard was next for the Vikings as he took 83rd in 26:45.6. A pair of rookies, Teslin Stecher and Itai Bojdak-Yates, were next. Stecher was 113th in 27:26.2 and Bojdak-Yates was 163rd in 28:45.5. Aaron Arthur finished the scoring for the Vikings by taking 173rd in 29:05.2.
Lawrence was 31st on the women's side with 906 points. WashU won the title with 27.
Leah Hawksford led the Lawrence contingent by taking 122nd as she finished the 6,000-meter course in 24:44.7.
