Ian Thomas won the javelin in record-setting fashion at the Midwest Conference Championships. The sophomore from Kirtland, N.M., won the event with a throw of 178 feet, 1 inch, nearly two feet farther than second place. Thomas, who won his first league title, broke the school record of 176-5 set back in 1986.
